Brain Fog Treatment

and feeling a little off. I had a thyroidectomy 1 1/2 yrs ago and was taking 100 mcg of Synthroid. My last blood test came back too low (too much thyroid .02) I also feel more tired. Are these common side effects of cutting back on Synthroid? I am now taking 50 mcg. I had thyroid cancer.
Let me re-phrase. My tsh was too low, which means, I have too much thyroid in my system. I was too hyper, NOT hypo. A low tsh means there is more thyroid in your system than say a 5.0.

Fatigue can be associated with both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. You should have your levels checked again if you’re not feeling well.

- I’m a little confused by your question: You mentioned that your blood test came back too low, but then say that your thyroid levels were too high.

Hi, I was wondering what could cause tingling in the head? I noticed that it is only in the top portion of head, as well as the rest of my body. It is also accompanied by mental fog, and fatigue. I also have a lot of burning in my body and a positive babinski reflex. What could be causing these things? My other symptoms are as follows:

*Burning pain (in muscles) – moderate to severe, lately severe
*Pins and Needles Feeling
*Numbness
*Decreased Muscular Control
*Stiffness
*Swelling – worse in back, feet and legs
*Fatigue **** – Mentally & Physically
*Depression
*Headaches
*Irritability
*Heaviness in back and limbs
*inability to touch of bend neck w/o tingling and electrical sensations rushing through my head
*Brain fog
*Difficulty thinking clearly, reasoning, word recall, concentrating, urinating, standing, and memory
*I also walk with a gait, rely more on my left leg.
*Thickening of the skin, and tightening of the muscles.

Thanks for your help.

There are a host of things that could explain many, though maybe not all of these symptons including TIAs(vascular), infections and imflammatory conditions, exposure to noxiuos agents, collagen-vascular diseases, MS, side effects from medication, and (rarely)tumors. If anyone in your family has had similar symptons that would be a clue. Your age , occupation and general health make a difference, too. A Neurologist would be the best person to see. An MRI scan has the best chance of any imaging test to see if there any anatomic changes.
Good luck.

Thyroid or something more serious?

My mom has been having some issues for the past 3 months and I finally dragged her to the doctors with me this past thursday. Since about Christmas she has been extremely tired, had extreme brain fog and has had no ititiative to do her daily activities.

She recently went to Florida and when she came home she was diagnosed with either a chest infection or ammonia. She is now on an antibiotic for that.

She is getting blood tests done this week but I am extremely nervous that it is something more serious.

Her main syptoms are

brain fog
confusion (hard time forming specific words)
forgetting what she was talking about
no drive to do anything
constipation
hard time breating (cannot get enough oxygen)
ringing in her ears
more headaches
Puffy eyes
A grainy voice
Muscle stiffness
and extreme fatigue

And she is such an outgoing person normally.

Do any of you have any ideas whether or not it could have to do with her thyroid….I am so scared for her….mainly scared of cancers….Anything to help…Thanks

Hi Chissy,

I had some of the same symptoms about a year and half ago. It took the doctors a few months to find the problem & sure enough it was my Thyroid. Tell her to ask the doctor to take the test for T4 & T5 levels this should determine if its her thyroid. The other systems could be just from her infection.
Don’t scare yourself that it might be cancer.

Hope she feels better.

A large gland in the neck that functions in the endocrine system. The thyroid secretes hormones that regulate growth and metabolism

Could it be hypothyroidism?

Hi Chrissy. All the symptoms you described, are definitely symptoms of a thyroid problem. I have hypothyroidism, and i suffer from all of them. They can also be symptoms of many other things. I’m glad that your mom will be getting blood work done. Hopefully, it will show what’s going on. Sometimes thyroid disease is hard to diagnose, because the numbers are normal, yet you have all the symptoms. There are 4 tests that need to be done. They are a TSH, T3, T4, and a Antibodies test. It’s important to get all 4 done ( especially the TSH, and Antibody ). Thyroid disease is hard to live with, but it can be treated with medication, with has to be taken for the rest of your life. I hope everything goes well for your mom, and that she feels better soon. Best of luck to you both :-)
